bis 1957: American Institute of Accountants (AIA), ist – dem ⇡ Institut der Wirtschaftsprüfer in Deutschland vergleichbar – der Dachverband der US-amerikanischen Wirtschaftsprüfer. Vor der Gründung des ⇡ Financial Accounting Standards Board waren vom AICPA eingesetzte Gremien bis 1973 für die Entwicklung von Rechnungslegungsregeln für börsennotierte Unternehmen zuständig. Heute hat das AICPA nur noch begrenzte Kompetenzen bei der Erarbeitung materieller ⇡ Rechnungslegungsvorschriften, übt aber über die Mitwirkung im ⇡ FASB weiterhin Einfluss auf die Ausgestaltung der ⇡ US-GAAP aus. Die Hauptaufgaben des AICPA sind heute die Erarbeitung der Richtlinien für Jahresabschlussprüfungen, der ⇡ Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS), die Entwicklung von Berufsgrundsätzen für Wirtschaftsprüfer, die Abwicklung der Wirtschaftsprüferexamen sowie die Interessenvertretung des Berufsstandes.
